How can we choose which apps are best for every user? In reality, it depends on how and what you use your phone for, so here’s a list of 16 apps that should benefit most of the people who read this article. (If you have any suggestions for must-have apps, let us know in the comments.)

1. Light Flow Lite

This app will allow you to regulate the RGB notification LED light found on the 6P. It’s great if you’re used to a flashing alert on your device, but you will have to enable the Pulse notification light in your Sound & notification settings to get it working in the first place. From then on, you’re free to toggle with the app settings to see what’s right for you. You can use Light Flow to set differently coloured notifications to flash up, which can help you sort your emails from your messages. It’s up to you to decide which color corresponds to each notification type. JOA Rating: 5

2. Zedge Ringtones and Wallpapers

This app is a great resource if you want more ringtones and wallpapers on your device. It looks good, and it’s very easy to use. If you’re looking for a wallpaper app, Zedge is one of the best out there. The Google Play Best of 2015 app has a lot to offer, and every wallpaper will calibrate with your S6, so it will fit the screen perfectly. Here’s the official advert; (although it has little to do with the app itself.) It’s one of the most well known apps on the Play Store, and you’re likely to find something that’ll spice up your screen. JOA Rating: 4

3. A Better Camera

The Nexus 6P has a decent stock camera, but it doesn’t compare to the highly rated ABC app. A Better Camera should be useful if you want to capture the best images, and it makes sense considering the camera itself has decent specs. If you’re unhappy with A Better Camera, there are lots of alternatives available on the store. If you want to take a look at the competition, these are the best HDR camera apps for Android. Either way, you can definitely do better than the stock option if you have a look around. JOA Rating: 4

When you’ve decided on a new camera app, you might as well get a new gallery to go along with it. QuickPic is a small, smooth gallery app that will replace the stock option, and it’ll improve the look and functionality of your gallery. You can use QuickPic to resize and rotate your images, and there are no ads. It doesn’t ask for any weird permissions either, so it’s a good place to setup your photo gallery. A gallery app may not seem like it makes much of a difference, but it’s intuitive, and it should help you to organize your images more efficiently. 5. Timely Alarm Clock

If you rely on an alarm to get you up in the morning, Timely is one of the best known apps on the Play Store. It has over 5m downloads, and it can be trusted to get you up each morning. As you can see, it’s a highly polished application, and it’s recommended by most users. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t download it! Here’s the official video from their YouTube channel if you want to see it in action; JOA Rating: 5

6. SwiftKey Keyboard

The stock keyboard is decent, but there’s a couple of good reasons why SwiftKey is one of the most downloaded keyboard apps on the Play Store. It’s extremely functional, and you can personalize it to fit your needs. It adapts and learns the more you type, and even though it’s sometimes hit and miss, it’s good enough to correctly predict complete sentences very occasionally. If you’re not convinced by SwiftKey, here is a comparison of three of the best-known Android keyboard apps on the market, so you can see if one of these is right for you. JOA Rating: 5

7. HD Live Wallpaper for Nexus 6P

If you want to see what your device is capable of, why not download a Live Wallpaper made especially for the 6P? This is a tiny app when compared to the renown of most of the others on this list, but it has received great reviews and it looks great on the 6P. It’ll obviously affect the battery life of your device, so don’t keep it on for too long if the drain becomes especially noticeable. Do you need some more options? Try these free live wallpaper apps for Android if you want to add some flair to your device. JOA Rating: 4

8. Battery Widget Reborn (Free)

This widget is great if you want to know exactly just how much juice you have left. Here’s an example of how it’ll look on your device; This app will provide added functionality, giving you a circular battery level indicator that is resizable. You can also receive notifications that relate to your battery, and you can choose from a range of different icons. It even comes with a torch, and it shouldn’t drain your battery due to being decently optimized. If battery life is a constant worry for you on the 6P, at least this widget will help to keep you in the know. (However, the free version does come bundled with adverts.) Here’s a video review to help you decide for yourself; JOA Rating: 4

9. VLC for Android

Replacing the stock video player is easy enough, and VLC or MX Player are usually the player of choice for most Android users. VLC is totally free, and it supports lots of different audio, video, and subtitle file types. (It also doesn’t have any adverts.) If you’re unhappy with VLC, MX Player is a viable alternative. This is what we think in a comparison of the two video players. JOA Rating: 5

10. Evernote

If you’re interested in increasing your productivity, Evernote will help you to utilize your 6P to it’s full potential. It’s a workspace app that you can use to manage projects, or set notes. It honestly depends on what you expect from your device in terms of helping to get your work done. If that sounds interesting, here’s the official advert (courtesy of YouTube as per usual) to give you a better idea of just what the app can do; As you can see, it should be able to help with a large number of functions, and it has over 100m downloads on the Play Store. JOA Rating: 4

11. Pocket

If you want to make use of the 6P’s great screen for reading, Pocket is one of the best apps to quickly save articles to read later, and there’s unlimited storage. You can access the articles offline, which makes a big difference for those of us that love reading in those places that Wi-Fi just can’t reach. All you have to do is save the article to Pocket while using your phone, and it’ll be there for you to view whenever you like. If you intend to use the 6P for reading, Pocket is well worth trying out. JOA Rating: 5

12. Clipper – Clipboard Manager

It can be difficult to copy and paste on the 6P as there is no clip tray, so here’s a clipboard manager for all of your copy/paste needs. (Or at least up to the 20 most recent clippings.) You’d be surprised at just how much use the app can potentially see, so if you find yourself wanting an easy way to C&P, Clipper should be able to handle your needs, while there is also a pro version if you need something more robust. (Or you just hate adverts.) JOA Rating: 5

13. Adobe Acrobat Reader

If you don’t want to use Google Docs, this app from Adobe will handle all of your PDF needs. If you’re going to be opening PDF’s regularly, it’s probably worth downloading this official product. (You can open PDF’s from your email, the browser, or any app that supports share functions.) It’s free to install, and it does exactly what you would expect it to do. JOA Rating: 5

14. Dolphin Browser

As the self-professed “best browser for Android”, Dolphin Browser is a decent choice if you don’t want to stick to Chrome. (It also comes with AdBlock installed.) Dolphin has been around for a while, and it has over 50m downloads, as well as tonnes of features like themes and gestures. Here’s an official video from their YouTube channel if you would like to see the browser in action; If you don’t want to give Google any more personal information, Dolphin is one of the best competitors on the Play Store. JOA Rating: 5

15. Lux Auto Brightness (Lite)

The adaptive auto-brightness settings found on the 6P can often be slow and unreliable, so Lux is a great app if you want your screen looking at it’s best at all times. Lux adjusts the brightness of your screen depending on your environment, so you should always have the best possible display. As some users have reported that the screen has looked washed out while using the device outside, it could be a good way to circumvent any issues. It’s completely free to download, and it should also help to save battery life because it should dim the screen a lot faster while the phone isn’t in use. It’s a shame that some features are locked behind the paid option, but there’s still enough on offer for it to be worth trying out. JOA Rating: 4

16. LastPass Password Manager

LastPass is a password manager and generator that keeps your passwords and personal information secure. One of the best features of the 6P is the fingerprint scanner, and LastPass supports this as a premium option. If you’re not willing to pay up, the free version still has a lot to offer, and it’s a great way to add another layer of security to your device. Here’s an official video that shows off what it can do: JOA Rating: 4
