Prerequisite

Before proceeding with any of the methods mentioned below, make sure that you make a full backup of all your important files. While the methods mentioned below have been extensively used and are safe, you should still make a backup just in case. Also, make sure that your device is charged at least 70% before using any of these methods.

Method 1: Bash Script (Root)

This is probably the easiest and most used method for unlocking the HTC One S. Coming from the XDA Forums, you’ll be able to unlock your device in just a few minutes. The method is free and you don’t need to buy any codes from third party services. However, you’ll need root access on your HTC One S in order to use this method.

Step 1

Download the Bash Script file on your PC. You can get the zip file using this link. Once downloaded, extract the zip file onto your PC.

Step 2

Connect your HTC One S to a PC using a micro USB cable, and click on Open folder to view files in the AutoPlay popup on your PC.

Step 3

Transfer the extracted unlock.sh file to your device’s root directory.

Step 4

Download and install any root enabled file explorer, such as Root Explorer on your HTC One S. You can download Root Explorer using the Google Play button below.

Step 5

Open Root Explorer and move the unlock.sh file that you transferred earlier to /system/.

Step 6

Open the unlock.sh file using Root Explorer. If the file launches successfully, you’ll get a code on the screen and you can proceed to Step 9. If you are unable to launch the file, proceed to Step 7 and Step 8.

Step 7

Download and install the program called Android Terminal Emulator on your HTC One S. You can get the app through the Google Play button below.

Step 8

Open Android Terminal Emulator and enter the following commands. su /system/unlock.sh

Step 9

A code should now display on the screen as well as in the sim_unlock_code.txt file in your device’s root directory.

Step 10

Write down this code and turn off your device.

Step 11

Insert any other SIM in your HTC One S and switch it on.

Step 12

Enter the code that you wrote down earlier. That’s it! You have successfully unlocked your HTC One S!

Method 2: SIM Unlock by Josnaro

SIM Unlock by Josnaro is another popular method for unlocking the HTC One S, and it should work with most One S models. Coming from the XDA Forums, this app displays an unlock code after you enter information about your device and this code can then be used to unlock the device. Like Method 1, you’ll need root access in order to use this method and you’ll also need a Windows PC. If Method 1 didn’t work with your device, then this is possibly the next best free alternative for unlocking your HTC One S.

Step 1

Download and boot  the program called Android Terminal Emulator on your HTC One S. You can get the app through the Google Play button below.

Step 2

Open your Android Terminal Emulator. Punch in the following commands:: su strings -n 8 /dev/block/mmcblk0p6

Step 3

After entering these commands, you’ll get several lines of information such as your IMEI number. Look for the UN_Lock_code. A code will be displayed after the = sign, for example UN_Lock_code=12345. Take note of this code.

Step 4

Download the SIM Unlock app on your PC. You can get the app using this link.

Step 5

Extract the zip file and launch the app on your PC.

Step 6

Launch the Dialer on your HTC One S and dial *#06# to find out your IMEI number. You can also find the IMEI number on the box of your device. Take note of this number.

Step 7

Enter the the UN_Lock_code that you got from the Android Terminal Emulator in the box below UN_Lock_code and enter the last seven digits of your IMEI number in the box below Last 7 digits of IMEI number.

Step 8

Click on the Ok button and you’ll get a code in the box below SIM Unlock Code. Take note of this code.

Step 9

Turn off your HTC One S and insert any other SIM in the device.

Step 10

Turn the phone back on and enter the SIM Unlock Code that you got from the SIM Unlock app. That’s it! You have successfully unlocked your HTC One S.

Method 3: SIM-Unlock.net

Sim-Unlock.net is one of the most popular services available for unlocking devices from some of the biggest manufacturers including HTC, Samsung, Apple and LG. Like other unlocking services, you need to purchase a SIM unlock code from the website and this can then be used to unlock your device for using any other SIM. While this method is paid, you don’t need root access in order to use the service. Therefore, if Methods 1 and 2 didn’t work with your device or you’re looking for a genuine way to unlock your device without rooting it, then this is possibly the best option.

Step 1

Go to the sim-unlock.net website and select HTC from the list of manufacturers.

Step 2

Select One S from the list of available devices and click on the Unlock HTC One S button.

Step 3

If you know your device’s database, click on the ORDER button below your desired database. In order to find out your database, open this link, enter your IMEI number and click on the TEST button.

Step 4

Make sure that One S is selected in the Select Model dropdown menu and enter your IMEI number in the box below Enter IMEI number. You can get your IMEI number by dialling *#06# from your device’s dialler app.

Step 5

Click on Make an order.

Step 6
